Gloucester crush Viadana
James Simpson-Daniel scored three tries on his return to the Gloucester side

Viadana 28-80 Gloucester

Rampant Gloucester rattled up their highest-ever European total in destroying Viadana to take control of their pool in the Heineken Cup.

The Premiership leaders capitalised on their defeat of Munster last week by running in 12 tries against the Italian minnows.

England prospect James Simpson-Daniel led the way with a devastating hat-trick as Gloucester opened up an insurmountable 45-14 half-time lead.

The young wing was joined in the try feast by Terry Fanolua, who also scored a treble, as Viadana were cut to pieces by Gloucester's superior pace and rapier finishing.

  Match facts
Viadana 28
Tries: Steyn (2), Dolcetto, Frasca
Cons: Steyn (4)
Gloucester 80
Tries: Paul 2, Garvey, Fanolua 3, Simpson-Daniel 3, Roncero, Boer, Forrester
Cons: Mercier (10)

There was also a brace of tries for Henry Paul, while Marcel Garvey, Jake Boer, James Forrester and Rodrigo Roncero also crossed the hosts' line.

But to their credit, Viadana never lost heart or gave up the fight.

Led superbly by flanker Matt Phillips and full-back Casper Steyn, they were ultimately rewarded with four tries of their own.
