A Luke Narraway try pushed Gloucester up to third in the Premiership with a comfortable victory over London Irish.

Nicky Robinson (two) and Chris Malone traded penalties, before Gloucester took control with Narraway's score.

Robinson added another penalty, while Tom Homer kicked one for the visitors to close the gap to 16-6 at half-time.

Malone's second penalty reduced the arrears, but Akapusi Qera's second-half try put the gloss on the home side's ninth win of the season.

Gloucester boss Bryan Redpath:

"We had to be patient and not force the game and our work ethic as a team was outstanding.

"There was great effort and commitment, especially in defence, and we were disciplined around the contact area.

"I am chuffed for the players. We had a short turnaround after the Wasps game last Sunday and, if a couple more passes had stuck in the first half, we could have gone in with more of a lead."

Irish head coach Toby Booth:
"It was a good tussle but Gloucester took their chances and we didn't.

"Once we got into the danger zone we didn't convert what we created. Gloucester are on the up and we are perhaps striving a little too much to make it happen.

"I don't think we are lacking in accuracy - we are lacking in composure."
