Fly-half Evans orchestrated Quins' victory with a 23-point haul

Harlequins climbed to eighth in the Premiership by handing rock-bottom Leeds a seven-try thrashing.

Ceiron Thomas gave Carnegie an early lead before Quins blew them away with tries by Chris Robshaw, Karl Dickson and Nick Evans before the interval.

Tom Guest crossed for the hosts shortly after the break before the visitors hit back with a Lee Blackett try.

Blackett added a second but Mike Brown, Ross Chisholm and a last-gasp Chris Brooker score compounded Leeds' woes.

Leeds were on the front foot in the eighth minute, and three points up after Thomas's early penalty, when Rhys Oakley's pass was intercepted by Robshaw who raced in for the hosts' opening try.

Evans sailed the conversion home but hit the upright with a penalty attempt two minutes later.

Robshaw was again on hand to provide the impetus for Quins' second try as he burst through the Carnegie midfield to find Joe Marler, who fed Dickson.

Evans converted and the New Zealander extended his side's lead to 14 points with a 30-metre penalty just minutes later.

Thomas pulled the score back to 17-6 with a place kick of his own after the hosts were penalised for collapsing a scrum.

On the stroke of half-time Evans crossed from short range, after bustling work from Will Skinner and James Johnston, and converted his own score to round off an accomplished 40 minutes work by Quins.

Leeds came out fired up after the break but were soon in trouble when Pete Wackett found himself isolated in his own half before he was turned over and Marler was again on the charge to feed Guest who crossed for the bonus-point score.

Blackett went in for Leeds after Miguel Alonso's break saw the ball worked wide for a good combination between the winger and Michael Stephenson. Thomas missed the conversion.

The effervescent Dickson, deputising for England scrum-half Danny Care, created Quins' next try as he darted down the short side past Kearnan Myall to find Brown who scampered over.

But Quins were guilty of falling asleep after their score and Myall took advantage to set up Blackett for his second try, converted by Thomas.

Chisholm, on at full-back, combined skill and power as he handed-off and side-stepped three covering Leeds defenders to score.

And Brooker rounded off a forgettable afternoon for the visitors with his last-gasp try which came from a quick tap-penalty short of the line.

Harlequins centre Ollie Smith told BBC London 94.9:

"We were quite clinical and we're very happy.

"It's nice not to throw a couple of forward passes and knock on with the line at your mercy!

"The talk all week has been positive and that's the whole ethos of the squad at the moment. We firmly believe that if we play well, we can beat anyone."

Leeds director of rugby director Andy Key told BBC Radio Leeds:
"The team are embarrassed today by having 50 points put on them.

"We've got to be honest so we come out of this Christmas period knowing that we've got a couple of wins under our belt.

"We like to pride ourselves on doing our homework on our opposition and we knew that if we gave them easy, cheap ball they will punish you - but that's what we did."
