Rob Vickers of Newcastle tackles Tom Rees during the Falcons' victory
Fly-half Jimmy Gopperth kicked 19 points as Newcastle came from behind to defeat London Wasps and post their first Premiership win of the season.
Tries from Tom Varndell and Ben Jacobs and seven points from Mark van Gisbergen's boot had given Wasps a 17-3 lead after 27 minutes.
But the home side fought back with close-range tries from Redford Pennycook and Tim Swinson.
Gopperth added four penalties and two conversions to help seal the win.
Wasps raced into a 7-0 lead after just two minutes after Varndell chased a Van Gisbergen penalty miss and touched down before the ball went dead.
The visitors' second try was a sublime effort, starting with a one-handed pick-up and break from Richard Haughton. The ball passed through the hands of Varndell, Tom Rees and Simon Shaw before centre Jacobs applied the finish.
Newcastle reduced the deficit to four points before half-time when Pennycook barged over and Gopperth landed a penalty from the halfway line.
The Falcons resurgence continued after the break with Swinson capitalising on a misplaced pass from Haughton to score under the posts and Gopperth converting to make it 20-17 to the hosts.
Three more Gopperth penalties piled on the pain for winless Wasps, who were held to a 29-29 draw by Harlequins on the opening weekend of the season.
