England manager Martin Johnson is among the famous faces taking part in a 110-mile walk for former Leicester Tigers star Matt Hampson.

The walk will raise funds for the Matt Hampson Trust and children's charity SpecialEffect.

Hampson, now 24, dislocated his neck four years ago while training with the England Under-21 team.

"Matt has been an absolute inspiration to lots of people," said Tigers coach Richard Cockerill.

"The bravery and commitment he has shown is second to none."

Former rugby greats Rory Underwood and Jason Leonard also gave their support by turning out for parts of the walk.

The eight-day expedition ends at Saturday's Guinness Premiership final between Leicester Tigers and London Irish at Twickenham.

The participants have been given the honour of walking around the pitch prior to kick-off.

Cockerill told the BBC: "He's got a lot more bravery than a lot of the guys who will be playing this weekend.

"He gives us huge inspiration. He still comes in a chats with the lads, he still comes to the game and he is still our player."
