Newbury Blues have appointed Ben Sturnham as their new head coach, replacing the out-going Chris Dossett.

Sturnham, who won three England caps as a player at Saracens, joins from Bristol where he was an academy coach.

Along with Dossett, 16 players have left cash-strapped Newbury since the end of the season.

Julian Lewis, the Blues' chairman of professional rugby, said: "We are all aware of the challenges facing Newbury next season."

"Ben brings to us the experience and enthusiasm we will need to build a squad capable of competing in National One next season," added Lewis.

Sturnham is an RFU level four qualified coach. As well as coaching at the Bristol RFC academy, he also spent four years as head coach of Bristol University.
