Rock bottom Carnegie went ahead through Tommy McGee's converted try and Leigh Hinton's penalty but Sale cut the gap through two Charlie Hodgson penalties.
Lee Thomas's try gave Sale a 13-10 half-time lead and he added a second before Tom Biggs scored for Leeds.
Tries from Chris Mayor and Oriol Ripol secured Sale's bonus point and Biggs' second try was merely a consolation.
Sale director of rugby Phillipe Saint-Andre:
"Leeds started very well in the first 20 minutes and when the opposition are 10 points in front they you've got a lot to do.
"But we didn't panic, we became a bit more patient and scored four tries.
"I'm pleased with our progress overall. Since the World Cup we have had three games and we've taken 14 points."
