Northampton have completed the signing of Argentina under-21 hooker Matias Cortese on a two-year contract.
The 20-year-old, who stands at 6ft 1in and weighs over 17 stone, played in the recent IRB under-21 world championship but was sent off against Wales.
He won his first full Pumas cap after coming on as a replacement against Samoa last December.
"Matias is only young and has already made his mark on the international scene," said coach Budge Pountney.
"We needed extra cover at hooker as Steve Thompson and Dylan Hartley may be called up to the England and U21s sides during the Six Nations.
"And we are sure Matias will flourish here under the tutelage of former hooker Peter Sloane, our new forwards coach for next season."
