Maddock missed this year's Super 12 with a knee injury
Canterbury Crusaders wing Joe Maddock has joined Zurich Premiership side Bath on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old, who had his season cut short by a knee injury last year, is almost back to full fitness and leaves for Britain next week.

"I've played all my rugby in Canterbury but everything comes to an end and it's my time to go," he said.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to see a different part of the world and experience a different culture."

Maddock made his National Provincial Championship debut for Canterbury in 2001 and played for Super 12 side the Crusaders in 2002.

"Rugby-wise, I'm just really looking forward to playing again. It's been several months since I was last on the paddock and this will be an exciting new challenge for me."

Canterbury Coach Aussie McLean said: "Joe has been a spark-plug for teams he's played in and last year was starting to hit top form when he damaged his knee.

"This opportunity at Bath is a wonderful one for him and we are sure he'll make a great fist of it."
