Saracens have beaten Gloucester in the race to sign French hooker Raphael Ibanez.

The former France captain will join the Watford-based side from Castres after the World Cup later this year.

Ibanez's signing strengthens Saracens' French connection.

France stars Phillipe Sella, Abdel Benazzi and Christian Califano have all played for the club while Thomas Castaignede is still there.

Ibanez said: "In my move to Saracens I know that I can keep getting better with so many talented players in the squad, and the tough competition in the league."

"It's hard to imagine exactly what it will be like, but I can't wait to see.

"I have known the French rugby system for some 10 years, and want this as a rugby challenge."
