Fahrensohn forced to retire
Jeff Fahrensohn celebrates a try against Saracens last season
Fahrensohn scored four tries in 37 games for Irish
London Irish lock Jeff Fahrensohn has been forced to retire after failing to recover from a persistent back injury.

The 34-year-old underwent an operation on the injury last year, but the problem has resurfaced this season.

Doctors have now warned the New Zealander that further surgery is unlikely to allow him to return to Zurich Premiership action.

Fahrensohn joined Irish two years ago from the French club Aurillac, having previously played for the Auckland Blues in his native country.

"Jeff has been an exemplary professional over the past two seasons and has contributed greatly to the progress London Irish has made both on and off the field," said Exiles director of rugby Conor O'Shea.

"He is one of the gentlemen of rugby and we will miss him."
