Marsters joins Saracens
Andy Moore
Andy Moore left Swansea to join Bridgend
Saracens have signed Swansea's New Zealand-born prop Johnny Marsters on a two-year contract.

The 29-year-old front rower spent the last 12 months at St Helen's but is the 10th player to leave the All Whites this summer, including Wales lock Andy Moore.

Marsters teams up for a second time with new Saracens coach Wayne Shelford, who was his boss for three seasons at North Harbour in New Zealand.

"I was looking at signing for Swansea for another couple of seasons when I heard that Wayne was coming to the UK," Marsters, who has also played for the Natal Sharks, said.

"He played a big part in me coming to the club."

But the flexible prop, who is capable of playing in all three front row positions if necessary, was also attracted to the calibre of player in the Saracens squad.

"To have the chance to train and play alongside the likes of Richard Hill, Kyran Bracken, Thomas Castaignede and Tim Horan is really good.

"Next season is going to be a great challenge for us after last season's results and I can't wait to get started."

Another piece of good news for Saracens is that back row Kris Chesney has agreed a new three-year deal to stay at Vicarage Road.

The 28-year-old has been with the Vicarage Road outfit for the past seven and had no hesitation in extending his stay.

"I never considered going to a different club, but in many respects with a new coach, new players coming in and new ideas, Sarries is almost a new club," said Chesney.

"Last season didn't really happen for us. Too often we lost games by the odd point and didn't take our chances when it came to totally shutting a team out.

"Next season will be tough, but we've got great potential, so getting back into the Heineken Cup has to be a goal for us."
