Glasgow end Leinster run

Glasgow 25-21 Leinster

Stuart Moffat's late try gave Glasgow a hard-fought win over Leinster at Hughenden and maintained their 100% start to the new Celtic League season.

Barely a minute was on the clock when centre Kieran Lewis squeezed over in the corner for the Irishmen.

They went further ahead when Test scrum-half Brian O'Meara confidently slotted his first penalty from close in.

Glasgow then got the break they so desperately needed on the half-hour mark.

The alert Tommy Hayes scooped up a sloppy midfield pass by O'Meara following Moffat's clearance and with the defence committed, he was free to skip home under the crossbar.

Calvin Howarth added the goal, only for Leinster to reclaim the initiative. This time Ben Gissing broke through, after Hayes had surrendered possession deep inside his own half. O'Meara converted.

Glasgow responded by creating their second try immediately after the restart.

The ball was flashed out the line giving wing Jon Steel the time and space to race into the right-hand corner.

But again the Dubliners hit back at the first opportunity with another O'Meara penalty.

Hayes returned to the firing line to land his first kick as play surged from end to end.

He repeated the dose four minutes later to level the scores.

Then came Moffat's late face-saver, converted by Howarth.

There was still time for O'Meara to pull back three points for Leinster, but the home side held out for victory.
