Cornwall fall to second successive defeat

Rugby Union

Cornwall slipped to their second successive defeat in rugby union's County Championship on Saturday, losing 44-23 at Gloucestershire.

South African Jean Botha proved to be the key man for the home side, scoring a hat-trick of tries.

Nev Codlin's try after just 70 seconds saw the hosts get off to the best possible start.

However, the Duchy fought hard throughout, with Ben Hilton and Owen Hambly touching down for the visitors.

Cornwall lost 25-18 against Hertfordshire in their opening match of the tournament and travel to Canterbury this weekend to face Kent in what has become a crucial match at the bottom of Division 1 South.

Defeat for Cornwall could see them facing relegation to Division 2 South.
