LV= Cup

Holders Northampton still exited the LV= Cup, despite coming from 19-12 down at the break to beat Leeds.

Having lost their three previous group games, Leeds looked set for an upset as James Tincknell, Hendrie Fourie and Andy Craig put them up at the break.

But Roger Wilson, Ryan Powell, Stuart Commins and Greig Tonks ran in second-half tries for the Saints.

And flanker Jacob Rowan's late response for Leeds proved a consolation in front of a big Franklin's Gardens crowd.

Despite their bonus-point win, Northampton bowed out, while Leeds finished the tournament without a win and only two points.

Despite having nothing to play for, the visitors gave one of their best performances of the season in the first half and at one stage led the strongest available Saints side 19-7.

But the home pack dominated proceedings after the interval to ensure a deserved victory.

Northampton Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder told BBC Radio Northampton:
"The first half was disappointing.

"But we addressed the issues at half-time and the team came out and it was a different second-half performance.

"We picked up in defence, we stopped them playing and then got some real good quick ball."
