Shingler kicked a conversion and six penalties for Scarlets
|
Scarlets won 25-16 at London Irish despite trailing by a point at half time to bring them nine points from their first two LV= Cup matches. Irish went ahead when Chris Malone's neat chip was collected by Daniel Bowden before Elvis Sevreali'i was set up for a try which was converted. Four Steven Shingler penalties brought the Welsh side back in it. The vital try for them came when Richard Thorpe was sin-binned, and Lee Williams scored from a scrum. Shingler converted that, and with six minutes to go, added another penalty to make it 22-16. The Exiles' last hope evaporated when Malone missed a crucial penalty one minute later before Shingler knocked over one from inside his own half to seal a notable win. In contrast, with two defeats, no points and games against Gloucester and Northampton to come, Irish have little hope of progressing to the knock-out stage.
