Worcester Warriors 21-23 Cornish Pirates

RFU Championship

Cornish Pirates inflicted a first Championship defeat on Worcester Warriors after Rob Cook's late penalty gave them a shock win at Sixways.

Pirates were 14-0 up at half-time after tries from number eight Kyle Marriott and centre Matt Hooper.

Andy Goode and Cook exchanged penalties after the break before Jonny Arr's score and a penalty try looked to be enough to seal victory for the hosts.

But Pirates fought back to record a first away win in 10 months.

Worcester Warriors head coach Richard Hill told BBC Hereford & Worcester:
"The Pirates were really up for it, as every team is that comes here, and played out of their skins. But we were very poor.

"Before the game the players were in a good frame of mind, we certainly hadn't underestimated them, but it was an error-strewn first half.

"We couldn't get anything right, we were dropping off tackles and they scored two relatively soft tries. We don't expect to let in tries like that to go 14-0 behind. It could have been even worse.

"From knocking on to giving penalties away, there were several occasions in the first half when we were five metres from their line and they won the ball off us.

"Andy Goode's kicking was not accurate as it had been last week against Bedford, eight out of eight last week but he missed them tonight."

Cornish Pirates forwards coach Ian Davies told BBC Radio Cornwall:
"The boys were fantastic right from the first minute.

"I think we could have scored another try in the first-half which would probably have been a truer reflection but in the second half we really dug in and we came away with a deserved victory.

"Heads could have gone down after leading for so long and then going behind, but (Rob) Cook stood up and banged it over again.

"It feels really, really good, but we've got to back it up next week. It's our first away win since last December so hopefully we can lay that to rest now."
