Brighton Blues clinch second Twickenham victory

Brighton Blues have won their second trophy at Twickenham in two years.

The Blues beat Coventry side Dunlop 32-3 on Saturday to win the Rugby Football Union's Senior Vase having taken the Junior Vase last year.

Blues player-coach Neil McGovern told BBC Sussex: "It's been an incredible two years at the club.

"It's down to the boys and the effort and attitude they've shown. Hopefully we can keep the side together and push on as a club."

An Ed Court try gave the Blues a 5-3 lead at half time following a penalty from Dunlop scrum-half Danny James.

The sin-binning of Dunlop flanker Gerrard Clough early in the second half proved the turning point as Brighton ran in two quick tries through centre Court and lock Mark Gibb.

"It is a nerve-wracking stage to play on and I think it probably took us 40 minutes to get into our stride," McGovern said.

"The sin-binning made a difference as it gave us a little bit extra hand up front. I'm really pleased we came through."
