Old Reds claim Twickenham victory

Bristol amateur side Old Redcliffians rounded off a memorable season with a 42-21 win over Northern FC in the RFU Intermediate Cup at Twickenham.

Reds forward Jed Hooper scored a hat-trick in just 19 second-half minutes to seal the victory.

Player-coach Graeme Beveridge told BBC Radio Bristol it was a day to savour.

"The scenes at the end with the 800 or so Old Reds supporters is something I'll remember for a long time, I was fairly emotional," he said.

"It couldn't have gone better, we played really well and we dominated most of the game."

Scrum-half Beveridge, who played for Edinburgh, Glasgow and Bristol during his professional career, earning six caps for Scotland, believes he will remember the success over their Newcastle-based opponents for the rest of his life.

"It's right up there. Until this year I'd never won a league and I'd never won a cup so regardless of what level it is, it's a fantastic day for me," he said.

Old Reds won the Tribute Western Counties North this season, and Hooper says the win and his try-scoring exploits have capped a perfect season.

"Scoring three tries at Twickenham is not the way you imagine it the night before the game, it's too good for that," he said.

"But after I'd scored the first two I can't lie that it was going through my mind to get another and when I popped up on the wing I was screaming for the cross-kick from Craig Owen.

"It just fell nicely for me and it was a great feeling."
