Plymouth Albion 19-14 Cornish Pirates

Plymouth Albion

Cornish Pirates play-off hopes came to an end at Brickfields as they lost to Plymouth Albion.

Friday's loss means the Pirates are unable to overtake Bristol and Bedford at the top of Pool A.

Despite the Pirates scoring the first try through Tyrone Holmes, Albion kept their heads to lead 9-7 at half-time thanks to three Alex Davies penalties.

A converted try from Liam Gibson, and a fourth Davies penalty ensured Albion then stayed in front to claim the win.

The Pirates kept pushing to the end with Johnny Bentley adding a late try, but they were unable to find the winning points in a frantic ending.

Victory for Albion ensures they continue their recent dominance over the Pirates at Brickfields, with the Cornish side's last league win at the ground coming back in December 2005.

The Pirates now sit third in Pool A with 10 points from five games, while Albion are fourth with five points from as many games.
