Cardiff opens Arms to Wales Under-20

Cardiff Arms Park
Phil Davies says playing in Cardiff will boost the Six Nations experience

Wales Under-20 will play their home Six Nations games on Fridays at Cardiff Arms Park in 2010.

The ties will be Scotland (12 February, 1910 GMT), France (26 February, 1530 GMT) and Italy (19 March, 1910 GMT).

"Cardiff is the central attraction in Wales on a Six Nations weekend," said coach Phil Davies. "Holding our games there will add something extra."

Davies has named a 26-man squad for the tournament, half of them having played for the U20s last season.

He also named 16 further players (eight reserve players and eight others who are part of the wider squad) who could come into contention depending on fitness and form.

Twelve of the squad have gained professional experience - Blues trio Rhys Williams, Josh Navidi and Rhys Downes, Ospreys pair James King and Matthew Jarvis, Dragons Dan Watchurst, Toby Faletau, James Thomas and Matthew Pewtner, Bristol's Jack Gadd and Scarlets Gareth Davies and Simon Gardiner.

"There is added experience in the side this year and we have also built some extra strength in depth into the squad with quality new players coming into the group," said Davies.

"Wayne Proctor has done a lot of conditioning work with some of our developing players to raise their standards and Tavis Knoyle and Ashley Beck, although still eligible for this age group, have moved into the professional regional system which is a positive reflection on the international player pathway and the regions."
