Bromsgrove moved up to fourth in the National Three Midlands table
|
Bromsgrove toppled Longton in a thriller at Finstall Park after snatching a dramatic 27-25 victory. Longton looked victorious with a late drop goal but full-back Richard Stockholm charged down a kick from the restart, following up to grab a try. Earlier Toby Wilson opened the home side's scoring, before a Mark Coulson break put Stockholm over. Couolson and Wilson added tries but Joel Booth and Craig Wilson crossed for Longton to set up a dramatic finale. Elsewhere in National Three Midlands, Malvern suffered a 26-19 defeat at top-of-the-table Ampthill. Malvern trailed to a third-minute try and a penalty before they put in a controlled drive to the line for scrum-half Dave Hadkiss to touch down. Malvern were level as Tom Beechey put over a penalty after Ampthill had conceded a further 10 metres for back-chat, but the home side's second try put them 15-8 up at the break. Two penalties from Tom Beechey narrowed the gap to within a point, but then had Richard Fleming sin binned, as Ampthill stretched their lead. It looked as though Malvern would be denied a bonus point, but number eight Jay Martin set up Beechey for a late try.
