Geoff Griffiths column

Plymouth Albion full-back

We have shown we can perform so it is just a case of nailing the consistency down

After a great win against Pirates it was frustrating to watch the boys lose at Moseley in a pretty bad game of rugby.

We had a great start through a well-worked try, finished off by Sean-Michael Stephen, but failed to take the chances that followed in the first half.

The game was scrappy at best and Moseley did just about enough to win.

Due to my injury I had the pleasure of watching the game from the sidelines amongst the Albion fans that had travelled up for the match.

They injected so much passion into the atmosphere that it was a real pity not to repay them with the kind of performance we have proved we are capable of.

Everyone must be getting tired of hearing about our 'young team' and how we are 'gelling'. But, as a group, it is our collective goal to play as well as we did against the Pirates and Exeter and have no excuses for anything less.

We have shown we can perform, so it is just a case of nailing the consistency down.

They say that rugby is the ultimate team game and this is an example where it is very applicable.

From the coaching staff, to numbers one to 15, we must all be singing from the same hymn sheet.

It must be frustrating for the fans who get behind us every week to see us excel in one game and not in the next but, believe me, it is even more frustrating for the players when we know we have not quite performed to our best!

The great thing about rugby is that there is always another week to build on a performance

Looking at the boys' faces after the Pirates win shows how much playing well and winning means to us as a group, as does seeing their faces on Saturday after a disappointing loss.

The great thing about rugby is that there is always another week to build on a performance and what better place to do it than Brickfields in front of our rowdy home fans?

Doncaster have not had a great start to the season and are yet to win a game so they are definitely there for the taking.

However, the lads will be wary of a backlash from a team that has performed consistently well for a number of years in this league.
