Anglo-Welsh clashes for EDF semis

EDF Energy Cup

The semi-finals of the EDF Energy Cup will see two English-Welsh clashes.

Gloucester will face the Ospreys in the first of the back-to-back games (1430 GMT kick-off) at Coventry's Ricoh Arena on Saturday, 28 March.

Cardiff Blues will then play Northampton (1715 GMT) in the second semi-final.

Both games will be screened live on BBC television, with the winners going through to the final at Twickenham on 18 April.

The Ospreys are the defending champions but only sneaked through Group C thanks to a losing bonus point in their 23-19 loss away to London Irish.

Gloucester scored a late winning try to prevail 11-10 at Newcastle to pip Wasps to top spot in Group A.

Ospreys and Gloucester met twice in last season's Heineken Cup, each winning at home, but they now meet on neutral territory.

"That's a good draw," said Ospreys coach Sean Holley. "There's an English-Welsh flavour to both semis which makes the interest in this competition go right down to the wire.

"Delighted to get through into another semi for our fans and for the players and we'll look forward to that.

"There's the chance of two Welsh teams in the final now... we played Gloucester in another competition last year and we were one each so let's play the decider."

Northampton had to come from behind to see off the Scarlets in a 33-20 win on Saturday.

The Blues were the first to book their last-four place on Friday with a 24-18 home win over Bath.
