Geoff Griffiths column

Geoff Griffiths
I was gutted to be missing out [on playing Rotherham] as I had two good years there and would love to have gone back and try to get one over on my old team-mates

After a solid performance against Moseley two weeks ago the team celebrated that evening with the highlight of the Plymouth Albion social calendar so far.

This came in the form of a meticulously planned and organised 'wrestler themed' night out.

A large and varied number of 'interesting' and 'revealing' outfits were included with highlights coming in the form of two Sumo Wrestlers (Laidlaw and Sprangle), a number of Lucha Libra Mexican wrestlers (including Hallett and Cruickshanks) and a strong representation from WWE wrestling.

After a kangaroo court session at the club the boys moved on into town and I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to any members of the public who were accosted and/or wrestled by any of these characters.

Obviously my injury meant I missed out on the trip to my former club Rotherham at the weekend.

I was gutted to be missing out as I had two good years there and would love to have gone back and try to get one over on my old team-mates.

As it was I had to miss out on a gritty, dogged performance by the boys that in all honesty probably deserved more than the draw we came away with. With the conditions being horrendous it was good to know I had avoided the delights of the famous Rotherham Gale.

This weekend sees the visit of Sedgley Park to Brickfields who, like Moseley a couple of weeks ago, have caused many sides a lot of problems with their confrontational style.

After a dogfight like the Rotherham game the boys are in good practice for such a challenge and having watched our forwards go at each other in training this week I am certainly glad I am not lining up against them.

They have really been putting the performances in recently and it certainly gives us backs a bit of an edge when they are really on song.

Despite missing training at the moment I am not missing the weather which has begun to set in. When watching training I have been feeling quite smug all wrapped up with a number of thick layers on.

I do get a bit of banter off the boys for this but they have also been moaning about how cold they are. So, if anyone has any spare woolly jumpers please send them to "J Mensah-Coker, Plymouth Albion Rugby Club, PL1 4NE". Many thanks.
