Gloucester 51-27 Bourgoin
Winger Lesley Vainikolo on the charge for Gloucester

Fly-half Ryan Lamb claimed 26 points in an impressive display to put Gloucester in pole position in pool two.

Lamb kicked three penalties early on before converting tries from Akapusi Qera, Gareth Delve and Iain Balshaw.

Willie Walker and Lamb crossed after the break as Gloucester went 44-13 ahead although Jean-Philippe Genevois did pull a score back for Bourgoin.

But the result was never in doubt and Lesley Vainikolo's score with 10 minutes to go sealed a comfortable win.

The result means Gloucester move to within a bonus point victory of reaching the last eight.

And wins in their final two pool games will qualify Gloucester as top seeds, guaranteeing a home draw against the second of two best runners-up.

Bourgoin had made a bright start but were undone by two tries in four minutes in the first half.

Qera latched on to Mike Tindall's kick to cross over, despite referee George Clancy missing a glaring forward pass by Balshaw to Lamb in the build-up to the score.

And Delve extended the lead minutes later after sustained pressure from the home side.

The French side hit back through winger Mathieu Nicolas to reduce the deficit to 23-13, but the game was effectively over when Balshaw touched down before the interval.

Walker added Gloucester's fourth try before the Bourgoin forwards drove over Genevois to score, but Vainikolo rounded off another fine Gloucester move for the final try of the game.

  • Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan on Ryan Lamb's performance:

"Ryan is central to lots of things we are trying to do, and I am pleased with his progress.

"I thought his game was pretty tight today, and Qera is someone who is really good to coach. He picks things up really quickly.

"Gareth Delve has been great for us three games on the trot now. I think he is a fantastic player."
