Hodgson confident of success
For Club and country: Charlie Hodgson and Jason Robinson
For club and country: Hodgson and Robinson
By BBC Sport Online's Jonathon Moore

New England fly-half Charlie Hodgson claims it will be "business as usual" when he makes his England debut at Twickenham against the Romanians on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, a product of Bradford Grammar School and Durham University, has enjoyed a superb season with Sale and hopes to continue his good form in an England jersey.

"I've always wanted to run out at Twickenham," he told BBC Sport Online.

"Hopefully there'll be no injuries this week and I'll be running out on Saturday for my country."

Despite being in his first full season at Sale, Hodgson is confident he will be capable of adapting to the international game.

"I think I've come on a lot over the past 12 months," he said.

"I've been playing for Sale week in, week out since the middle of last season, so this is a good opportunity for me.

"It's been a good start for the club this year, and hopefully I can have a good game on Saturday."

The former England A and England Schools fly-half admitted that the news of his selection had come as something of a shock.

"I found out on Monday night and it's taken a while to sink in," he said.

"It's been strange, I wasn't expecting it so I was a little bit dazed by it all.

"Now I can't wait to get out there. It's been great training with England and I intend to play my natural game on Saturday."

'Star in the making'

Sale coach Jim Mallinder has described Hodgson as England's "most exciting talent".

We like to throw it wide and I've no doubt that he'll perform to the same, successful level

According to Mallinder, Hodgson has been key to Sale's recent revival and he admitted he was not surprised that England coach Clive Woodward has given him a chance.

"He's improved tremendously in the year he's been with the club," Mallinder told BBC Sport Online.

"His development has been massive. From the moment he arrived we knew he was a special talent. He is undoubtedly one of his country's most exciting talents."

Sale, who currently lie third in the Zurich Premiership, have so far enjoyed a remarkable season, winning eight of their 11 games.

And Mallinder confessed that while he is delighted for Hodgson, the team will miss him against leaders Leicester on the weekend.

"It's a massive boost for the club, that we now have Charlie and Jason Robinson in the England team," he said.

"It reflects well on them and rubs off on their club team-mates. Charlie is a special player, I've no doubt he won't let himself down."

Mallinder added that he expects Hodgson to play in the same way for club and country.

"We know where our strengths are. We like to throw it wide and I've no doubt that he'll perform to the same, successful level for England."
