No replacement for injured Pryce

England have decided not to call up a replacement for winger Leon Pryce, who has been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup with a damaged shoulder.

The 19-year-old Bradford Bulls ace - who was chosen by his team-mates as their player of the match in England's opening 22-2 defeat by Australia - is facing a two-month lay-off after dislocating his shoulder in last week's 76-4 win over Russia.

Coach John Kear had the option of calling up a fourth replacement, following the earlier loss of Simon Haughton, Francis Cummins and Nathan McAvoy, but has decided to run with a reduced 23-man squad for the knockout stages.

He looks certain to include all three specialist full-backs - Kris Radlinski, Stuart Spruce and Paul Wellens - on Wednesday when he names his team to play Ireland in Saturday's quarter-final at Headingley.

We have decided to give a vote of confidence in the players in the existing squad
  David Howes, England manager
"We have decided to give a vote of confidence in the players in the existing squad," explained England manager David Howes.

"If we were to run into further problems with the three-quarters we would have to reconsider, but we have complete confidence in the players already in place."

Injury doubts

There is mixed injury news of England's forwards, with Adrian Morley set to return from a back injury but Paul Sculthorpe still battling to overcome a pulled hamstring.

"Adrian is available for selection while Paul is making tremendous efforts to get fit," said Howes.

"He is having another scan and we will have a decision on his fitness by Wednesday."

The England players were training indoors at the JJB Stadium in Wigan on Monday.
