Coach Noble confirms Wigan exit

Brian Noble has stepped down as Wigan coach

Wigan coach Brian Noble has confirmed his departure from the Super League club following their 14-10 play-off defeat at St Helens.

Noble has been in charge since April 2006 but with Wigan's season over he is now out of contract at the club.

The former Great Britain coach revealed that he recently met owner Ian Lenagan and agreed that he would leave at the end of the current campaign.

"I will be moving on and the club will move on without me," Noble said.

"But hopefully I leave a fantastic legacy with some good young blokes coming through and a bridge well built.

"I've invested a lot of time and effort in the place but I'm very, very proud of what I've achieved. History will say that the legacy that I've left will be there for time to come."

Noble refused to be drawn on reports that he will be joining Welsh side Celtic Crusaders.

"I'll be getting a couple of beers first and I'll be getting my knee fixed because I've been letting that go for four or five years," he added.

"And then we'll see what opportunities are out there."
