Kyle Eastmond will improve, says St Helens' Ade Gardner

St Helens winger Ade Gardner says he expects to see Kyle Eastmond hit top form now his move to rugby union with Bath has been confirmed.

Eastmond, 21, will change codes at the end of the rugby league campaign.

"I think it was the world's worst kept secret that Kyle was going to move on," Gardner told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I expect to see the best of Kyle because he's a fantastic player and in my 10 years of playing he's the best athlete I've seen," he added.

"He's fast, has unbelievable footwork, he's tough as well and wants to win whenever we play. We've got him for the rest of the year and hopefully he can play up to the standard he can."

St Helens travel to France to face Catalans on Saturday, on the back of their 25-18 defeat to Warrington last week.

Gardner, 27, insists the Saints players have been working on their forward play after their first defeat of the season.

"The fighting spirit is there and it's just getting the little things in attack right that's going to help us. We've come on the back of a loss and we've still a point to prove.

"We want to go to Catalans and put in a real good performance and if we play well, we should win."
