Leigh coach Ian Millward dismisses Salford rumours

Millward twice won the Super League during his time at St Helens

Leigh Centurions coach Ian Millward has distanced himself from reports linking him to the vacant head coach's position at Salford.

The 50-year-old Australian has led Leigh, unbeaten in their first seven games, to the top of the Championship.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "It's very flattering when you get linked with jobs when someone leaves.

"I think that is a by-product of my success that I've had in Super League, winning five trophies."

Millward began his coaching career in England at Leigh before working for both St Helens and Wigan.

He then returned to Leigh in June 2009 after spells at North Queensland Cowboys and Canberra Raiders.

And, despite the vacancy created by fellow Aussie Shaun McRae's departure from Salford, Millward insists that he is currently happy with his role at Leigh Sports Village.

And, for Leigh, relegated from Super League in 2005, the main aim is a return to the top flight.

"My focus is here,"said Millward. "We've got absolutely magnificent momentum.

"I'm sure Salford would do their due diligence on the appointment process."
