Howell receives three-match ban

Howell escaped a five-match ban

Harlequins centre David Howell has received a three-match ban for a high tackle on Wigan half-back Sam Tomkins.

The 25-year-old Australian became the first player to be sent off in this year's Super League during his side's 40-12 defeat to Wigan Warriors.

Howell pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined £300.

He escaped a five-match ban as the committee noted his previous good disciplinary record and the fact that no serious injury was caused.
