Buderus has signed a two-year contract with Leeds

Leeds Rhinos new signing Danny Buderus has targeted the World Club Challenge match against Manly to make his debut.

The Australian hooker is recovering from a torn bicep injury and looks set to miss the opening few games.

"I'm going along good and I'm halfway through this six month injury," the 30-year-old told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I'm looking forward to the Manley game on 1 May. I may miss the first and second games of the season but hope I'll pop in for the third one."

After signing a two-year deal with the Super League Champions, Buderus then torn his bicep towards the back end of the NRL season with Newcastle Knights.

Buderus explained: "I was a huge decision to move over huge.

"You can't just think about yourself but about your direct family and extended family too.

"For instance the in laws will miss the little one.

"It was time for me to try something new and this was the right time.

"If I hadn't have moved over here now I never would have.

"Leeds are a great club and are right up their in league circles.

"I can't wait to get in their and try and earn the players' respect."

It was hoped that he might be fit for the Leeds' season opener against Celtic Crusaders on 6 February but Leeds coach Brian McClennan admitted he could not be certain the former Australian captain would be ready.
