Gene first joined Hull KR after impressing in the 1995 World Cup

Stanley Gene's days at Hull KR could be numbered after the former Papua New Guinea international was not offered a playing contract for next season. The 35-year-old's deal ends this season and he has been linked with a player-coach position at Featherstone. But the forward may still be persuaded to stay at Craven Park by taking up a coaching role. Hull KR coach Justin Morgan said: "We would love for him to be involved in some regard but that will be his call." Gene has had two spells at Craven Park, his first coming after he had impressed for his country in the 1995 World Cup. He then had stints at Hull, Huddersfield and Bradford before making a return to Rovers in 2007. Gene also represented his country in the 2000 and 2008 World Cups.

Morgan said it would be a big loss if Gene moved on, adding: "He has been a big part of our fabric for a long time now and he has got red and white going through his veins. "He is a cult hero, he is very much loved. He has broken bones for this club and carried the ball with great vigour. That is what the fans love to see."
