Huddersfield sign youngster Lunt

Huddersfield

Huddersfield Giants have signed Shaun Lunt on a three-year full-time contract from Workington Town.

The 21-year-old hooker or half-back was the National League's young player of the year in 2006 and 2007 and has joined for an undisclosed fee.

Giants managing director Richard Thewlis said: "He wanted a full-time environment and we are happy to provide him with an opportunity.

"He is a long-term project player for us," Thewlis added.

"Our club has followed Shaun's progress for a number of years and he is highly rated as having real potential for the future.

"At this stage he knows he is behind the mark in terms of players of a similar age who have been full time since 16, yet he has the advantage of playing senior rugby for longer.

We have agreed an undisclosed fee with Workington and I am sure that all three parties view the final outcome as a positive one for all

"So it will be interesting to see how he goes in our environment.

"I would also like to pay tribute to the Workington club and their chairman Dave Bowden who have been very understanding throughout our negotiations.

"I am sure Dave is upset to lose Shaun yet he made it clear from the outset that he didn't want to stand in the way of his progress to Super League.

"We have agreed an undisclosed fee with Workington and I am sure that all three parties view the final outcome as a positive one for all."
