Huddersfield Giants have appointed Nathan Brown as their new head coach.

The 34-year-old, who is currently in charge of NRL side St George Illawarra, has signed a three-year deal for the start of next season.

The Australian said: "This is a very exciting opportunity and I can't wait to get started.

"I intend to spend every spare minute watching the Giants on video and liaising with Keiron Purtill and Paul Anderson on a regular basis."

The two assistant coaches have been in temporary charge since the sacking of Jon Sharp at the beginning of June. They will remain in charge until the end of the season, when Brown will take over the reigns.

"They seem to be doing a great job, and I know that when I come over probably around late October everything at the club will be in very good order.

"Before taking the decision to come, I obviously had a look at the squad closely and there's a pretty good blend of youth and experience. What really sold the club to me was the ambition and enthusiasm of [chairman] Ken Davy and [managing director] Richard Thewlis.

"At this stage, I'm not prepared to make any bold predictions about what we can achieve over the next three years.

"There's no doubt this club has incredible potential and the chance to help fulfil it is one that already excites me tremendously."

Chairman Ken Davy said: "Nathan comes with the highest possible recommendations from across the rugby league world and throughout our process of appointment came out on top of a very impressive list of candidates.

"We had the highest possible calibre of applicant both from the UK and overseas so for Nathan to be our preferred choice speaks volumes for him and his achievements in the game.

"I wish him every success in the remainder of the year at the Dragons and everyone looks forward immensely to welcoming him and his family into the UK. This is the start of a new and exciting chapter for Nathan and the Huddersfield Giants."
