Crusaders hand Lupton and Winterstein new contracts

The Crusaders have handed both Peter Lupton and Frank Winterstein new two-year contracts.

It comes on the back of new coach Iestyn Harris signing former Great Britain winger Stuart Reardon on a one-year-deal from Bradford Bulls.

Lupton and Winterstein follow Vince Mellars in committing their future to the Welsh side.

"I'm delighted that both Peter and Frank are going to be with us for the next two seasons," said Harris.

Utility man Lupton joined the Welsh outfit from Castleford Tigers for their maiden Super League season in 2009.

Lupton, who was previously at the Bronchos, Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC as well as Castleford Tigers, was ever present for Crusaders in 2010, scoring 6 tries in 30 appearances.

Injuries to other players meant Lupton was forced to play in a number of position's for the Welsh side, including loose-forward, hooker and half-back.

"I'm enjoying my time here in Wrexham and I'm glad that my future has been sorted," said 29-year-old Lupton.

"Last season was a great one for this club and I believe we can do even better next year

"We've got a great team spirit here in Wrexham and I know there will be extra competition for places next year.

"I want to be part of the match-day squad every week so I'm just going to keep working hard."

Samoan international Winterstein, 23, can play anywhere in the back-row and has been a big hit since his arrival from Wakefield Wildcats in 2010. He made 29 appearances for Crusaders last season, scoring three tries.

He has NRL experience with the Canterbury Bulldogs and played in all of Samoa's recent autumn's internationals.

Frank is an important part of the Crusaders squad and we have high hopes for him next season

Iestyn Harris

Coach Harris believes both Lupton and Winterstein will both have big parts to play during 2011.

"Peter was one of our unsung heroes last season," said Harris.

"He had to play in a few positions for us because of injuries and he did really well for us.

"Peter is a very intelligent player, he reads the game well and isn't afraid to pull his sleeves up and do the hard work as well.

"His versatility means he can play in a number of positions and every squad in Super League needs someone like Peter.

"Frank showed a lot of promise last season. He's only 23 and he's going to get better and better.

"He's a strong player who runs hard, but also has good footwork and good speed for a big man. Frank is an important part of the Crusaders squad and we have high hopes for him next season."
