Family condolences sent by Tigers

Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers have sent their condolences to the family of rifleman James Backhouse, who was killed serving in Afghanistan last week.

The 18-year-old is the older brother of one of the Tigers' top scholarship players, Ryan 'Razza' Backhouse.

Head of youth development Steve Gill said: "This is terrible news for Ryan and his family and our thoughts are with them."

Backhouse died in an explosion near Sangin with four colleagues.

Castleford are hosting an Army v Legends of League match at the Jungle on Saturday, 25 July (kick-off 1215 BST), with the proceeds going to the Help for Heroes charity.

Tigers head coach Terry Matterson said: "These things put life into perspective and make you realise that what we do is just a game. Our thoughts are with Ryan and his family."
