Mathers has been linked with a move to Huddersfield Giants of late
Warrington Wolves comfortably saw off Catalans Dragons to regain second place in Super League XV.
Richie Mathers grabbed two tries and the man of the match award, while Lee Briers marked his comeback from injury with one of Wolves' seven touchdowns.
Richie Myler ran in from 35 metres before Chris Riley returned from the sin bin to strike before the interval.
Mike Cooper and Mickey Higham crossed for the Wolves after the break and David Ferriol scored for the Dragons.
Warrington lost forward Ben Harrison in the opening minutes but recovered quickly as Mathers gathered Myler's kick to score.
Paul Wood's run then broke the Catalans defence and he fed Briers to make it 12-0.
A dropped pass by the visitors led to Myler scampering away for his score before a scuffle led to Riley and Jean-Phillippe Baile being sinbinnede.
Matt King's pass sent Mathers in for his brace before Riley gathered King's inch-perfect kick to score.
Briers was the architect of Cooper's score but Ferriol failed to double his tally when he dropped the ball over the line under pressure.
Ben Westwood produced a solid display of kicking, landing six of his seven goal attempts.
Warrington coach Tony Smith: "The boys wanted to keep a clean sheet. Richie Mathers is upset about tapping the ball back.
"But his positives outweighed his negatives and he did really well. He shouldn't beat himself about too much.
"It was a very good first half. We were great with the ball and also defensively even when they looked like troubling us."
Catalans coach Kevin Walters:
"Our defence was sloppy and not adequate for this level of football in the first half.
"We looked vulnerable and very thin and did not work hard enough in defence. It's an effort thing and we didn't have it. We were better in the second half which is a positive.
"Warrington weren't as good in the second half or it could have been a lot worse."
