Salmon leaps to Vikings
Paul Salmon is wrestled to the ground
Salmon was also wanted by Sale Sharks
Widnes have beaten off competition from several other Super League clubs to sign Barrow winger Paul Salmon.

The England Under-21 speedster, who also attracted interest from union outfit Sale Sharks, has agreed a two-year contract.

Salmon will see out the current season with Barrow before joining the Vikings, who bought the player with the help of a £3,500 donation from a supporters organisation.

It's all happened so quickly in the end and I'm very excited
Paul Salmon

"We have watched Paul's progress this season and have been impressed," said Widnes director of rugby Neil Kelly.

"At 21, he is already experienced and as he can play centre, wing or full back he will be a valuable asset to us in Super League VIII."

"I am over the moon," said Salmon, a lifelong Widnes fan. "It is something I have wanted for a long time.

"There were a few other clubs interested but Widnes came in with an offer last week. It's all happened so quickly in the end and I'm very excited.

"It is not easy to leave your hometown club but I'm going to Super League and it is a great move."
