Salford revival continues

Salford 42-18 Wakefield

Salford condemned relegation rivals Wakefield to bottom spot in the Super League after a comprehensive victory at The Willows on Sunday.

The Reds scored seven tries - all from different players - as new coach Karl Harrison inspired his team to a second successive win.

Stand-off Graham Holroyd also kicked seven goals.

We have got to get a win soon because if we don't it is going to be pressure all the way
Wakefield coach Peter Roe

Salford raced into a 12-0 lead before a Wakefield player had even attempted a pass.

Ian Watson, filling in for the injured Bobbie Goulding, released Danny Arnold with a smart dummy and he cut inside to touch down and give Salford the lead.

Three minutes later it was Watson's turn to finish off the move as Stuart Littler took Holroyd's high kick before off-loading to the Wales international. Holroyd added the extras.

But Wakefield responded in the ninth minute when Brad Davis flung a pass out wide for Troy Slattery to score - Graham Law added the conversion.

But four minutes later Salford increased their lead when wing Alan Hunte ran the length of the pitch to score, with Holroyd kicking a difficult conversion.

The game started to drift away from Wakefield as another swift move yielded Salford's fourth try in the 27th minute.

Hunte started the move with a strong break before play was quickly switched to the left and Holroyd's long pass put Littler in.

The Reds all but killed the game early in the second half with their fifth try.

Watson's 53rd-minute drop-goal attempt was charged down by Slattery but rebounded nicely for Paul Southern to touch down.

I thought we were the better team throughout the contest

Salford stretched their lead when Watson jinked his way down the left before releasing Darren Treacey with a clever reverse pass.

Holroyd added two more conversions as the home side stretched their lead to 34-6.

But Wakefield kept fighting and managed to pull back two tries through Slattery and Gareth Ellis.

Law converted both tries but Salford were not done yet.

A Holroyd penalty nudged the Reds further ahead before Paul Highton wrapped it up with a late try. Holroyd completed the scoring with another successful kick.
