Tupou and Hape get Test call-ups
Anthony Tupou
Tupou will start on the bench for the Kangaroos
Australia have called up Anthony Tupou and New Zealand are set to start with Shontayne Hape in the second Tri-Nations clash in Melbourne.

The Kangaroos, who won the opener 30-18 in Auckland, have promoted Tupou to the bench in place of Andrew Ryan, who starts in place of Reni Maitua.

For New Zealand, winger Hape will come in for Brisbane's Tame Tupou.

"I didn't really see it coming so I must have looked a bit dumbfounded," said Australia's Tupou.

"Yeah I'm so excited, there's a few emotions coming out, probably shock most of all."

Hape missed the opening Tri-Nations clash with injury

Australia coach Ricky Stuart, Tupou's former boss at Sydney, said: "He's very young but he's got a big career in front of him.

"He now joins a very select few people and he is a very proud boy at the moment. I'm sure his parents will be very proud too."

Hape, who along with hooker Nathan Fien missed his side's opening defeat, joined up with the squad earlier this week.

Fien, though, is expected to return in about two weeks, possibly against Great Britain.

Elsewhere, South Sydney's David Fa'alogo has been included on the bench at the expense of Penrith's Frank Pritchard.

Jason Cayless and Motu Tony are also heading to Australia after being part of the respective St Helens and Hull sides which contested the Super League Grand Final at the weekend, but neither has been picked this week.

Despite Saturday's crushing victory, Australia's Stuart is wary of a New Zealand backlash this weekend.

"They're a strong squad so whichever player they pick it's going to be a very strong team and they've both been involved in this type of football before so it's only going to give them more experience," said Stuart.

"I haven't really had a good look at their team yet, I'm just more worried about getting our preparation right, as I keep saying."
