1629: Referee Stuart Cummings blows up to end the game, and Wigan's celebrations begin.

1625: Saints full-back Paul Wellens is harshly adjudged to have ripped the ball from O'Connor. Farrell converts the penalty to put Wigan in sight of a famous victory. St Helens 12-21 Wigan

1621: Wigan's Australian centre Jamie Ainscough intercepts a loose pass to snuff out another Saints attack. Radlinski is announced as the winner of the Lance Todd Trophy for his man-of-the-match display.

1614: With Farrell stopped just short of the line on the fifth tackle, Lam slots a drop goal over to leave Saints needing two scores. St Helens 12-19 Wigan

1609: The Radlinski defensive master class continues with another fine tackle to prevent a Saints try. And defence is quickly turned to attack when a fine O'Neill kick earns Wigan a 40-20 scrum.

1606: You just cannot write St Helens off. Paul Sculthorpe scores after good work by Cunningham, but Long misses his third attempt at goal. St Helens 12-18 Wigan

1557: Saints make a mess of the play-the-ball with the try line at their mercy and Wigan make the most of the reprieve by storming up the field through Julian O'Neill and Paul Johnson.

Connolly is on hand to finish the break and claim the first score of the second half. Farrell adds the extra points. St Helens 8-18 Wigan

1554: Wigan full-back Radlinski makes another textbook tackle to stop the flying Albert in his tracks.

1546: Wigan kick off the second half without Mick Cassidy, who has been forced out of the game with a dislocated shoulder.

1531: Breath-taking defence from Wigan as first Radlinski and then Gary Connolly put in try-saving tackles to stop Long and Paul Newlove respectively. H/T: St Helens 8-12 Wigan

1526: A stunning Tommy Martyn kick gives Saints a set of six in an attacking position, but Wigan hold firm to preserve their lead.

1523: The Saints are right back in it after Wigan-born Martin Gleeson skips past two tacklers and scores in the corner. Long pushes his kick past the left-hand post once more. St Helens 8-12 Wigan

1513: The game's first moment of controversy comes when the video referee decides Saints hooker Keiron Cunningham had been stopped just short of the line.

1510: Saints hit back when Darren Albert leaps highest to take a superb Sean Long kick. But Long misses the kick for extra points. St Helens 4-12 Wigan

1502: Wigan's dream start gets even better when Lam jinks his way over after excellent support play from Australian second row David Furner. Farrell again slots his kick over. St Helens 0-12 Wigan

1459: Wigan claim first blood with a well-worked Brett Dallas try after good work by Radlinski and Adrian Lam. Andy Farrell adds the extra points. St Helens 0-6 Wigan

1457: Wigan are caught offside just inside their own half, but St Helens ignore the penalty chance and opt for territory.

The gamble almost pays off but a last-ditch tackle by Radlinski knocks the ball out of Tim Jonkers' hands to save a certain try.

1455: Both teams go through two sets of six, but the defences are well on top in a cagey opening.

1448: St Helens kick off and are soon on the attack when Wigan knock on to concede a scrum only 15 metres from their try line. But solid Warriors defence snuffs out the early threat.

1418: Kris Radlinski is named in Wigan's starting line-up. The Great Britain full-back had been doubtful for the game after spending four days in hospital this week on an intravenous drip.
