Wigan celebrate Liam Farrell's try on the stroke of half time during their play-off victory over over Catalan Dragons

Defending champions Wigan booked their place in the last four of the Super League play-offs with a seven-try demolition of Catalan Dragons.

The Dragons beat the Warriors home and away during the regular season.

But there was to be no repeat as tries from Josh Charnley, Ryan Hoffman and Liam Farrell gave Wigan an 18-0 half-time lead.

George Carmont, Brett Finch, Sam Tomkins and Harrison Hansen went over after the break to complete the rout.

Wigan will now travel to old rivals St Helens in the the semi-finals on Saturday after Warrington opted to face Leeds via Club Call.

The Warriors were not totally convincing, despite Pat Richards seemingly settling the nerves with an early penalty.

Indeed, it was the Dragons who had the better of the early exchanges, with Thomas Bosc having a try ruled out for offside after Sam Tomkins fumbled Scott Dureau's high kick, while Clint Greenshields was denied by a last-gasp tackle.

But Wigan seized control with two tries in two minutes. Charnley scored the first after collecting Sam Tomkins' long pass, before Hoffman, making his final home appearance for the club, burst on to Finch's short pass to score.

Catalans had another try, this time from Lopini Paea, harshly ruled out for a forward pass, but there seemed no way back for the French side after Thomas Leuluai regathered his own chip to send in Farrell right on the half-time hooter.

And so it proved as Wigan ran in four more tries in the final quarter.

Richards kicked ahead for Carmont to touch down and Finch picked off a Bosc pass to run in from 30 metres, before Sam Tomkins capitalised on a fumble by Cyril Stacul.

Hansen marked his 200th career appearance by charging through the Dragons defence to score the final try, with Richards completing the scoring with his eighth goal from nine attempts, becoming only the fourth player in the club's history to score 2,000 points in the process.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Wigan coach Michael Maguire:

"It's definitely pleasing to get this win.

"After last week when we didn't play to our capabilities, it was good to see the boys aim up.

"We had a look in the week at the areas we need to improve on and there are some more where we need to kick on."

Catalans coach Trent Robinson:

"There are no fairytales in footie and that showed tonight.

"We were on a bit of a wave. We've worked hard for what we've got and the result tonight doesn't take away from that.

"They've put some pride back in the jersey and in the town and also in the country. I think there should be a pat on the backs for what they've done this year."
