Menzies made his name playing for the Manly Sea Eagles
Catalan Dragons' veteran second row Steve Menzies was among the points as the hosts ran in seven tries against Leeds for a 38-18 Super League win.
The 37-year-old crossed in the second half after Sebastien Raguin, Frederic Vaccari and Damien Blanch scored before the break, along with Leeds' Ryan Hall.
Rhinos threatened a comeback through Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Danny Buderus.
But the Dragons pulled away thanks to tries by Clint Greenshields, Vincent Duport and Vaccari's second.
The Dragons' sixth win in seven games was played out in front of a new record crowd of 10,688 at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.
The current stadium record of 9,985 was set for a play-off game against Wigan in 2008 but the opening of a new stand has lifted the capacity to nearly 11,000.
The club did attract 11,122 fans to the neighbouring Stade Aime Giral for their first-ever Super League match in 2006 and drew 18,150 for the visit of Warrington to Barcelona's Olympic Stadium in 2009.
Crowds in Perpignan dropped to an average of 6,814 last year when the Dragons finished bottom, but their vastly-improved form this season has seen them grow back up to the 8,000 level they enjoyed in 2009 when they got to within 80 minutes of a maiden Grand Final appearance.
