A Ben Galea hat-trick on his 100th Hull KR appearance helped them ease past Super League bottom club Crusaders.

Sam Latus crossed for Rovers on six minutes with Galea adding a second try shortly after.

Eliot Kear and Frankie Winternstein tries and a Clint Schifcofske goal took the depleted Crusaders back to 12-10.

But Rovers pulled away after the break with scores by Shaun Briscoe, two from Galea, Clint Newton and Dobson, who finished with five goals to his name.

The hosts were without the seven first-team players who were suspended midweek for breaking a squad curfew.

With three players on loan from Championship side South Wales Scorpions in their ranks, Crusaders were soon behind when Latus took his easy opener after Jake Webster put him through.

Two minutes on Dobson neatly put Galea in for his first before Rovers lost Jason Netherton to the sin bin for a bad tackle on Michael Witt.

With the numerical advantage, the Welshmen raised their game, Lincoln Withers and Gareth Thomas coming close before Kear dropped the ball with the line beckoning.

Kear held onto Vince Mellars' pass to put his side on the scoreboard and six minutes before the interval Winterstein muscled his way over - but Schifcofske could not convert the second.

Three tries in the opening 20 minutes of the second half ensured there was no way back for the hosts as Briscoe crossed in the right corner and Galea sealed his hat-trick.

Newton gathered a sweet grubber kick over the line on 63 minutes before Dobson rounded off victory when he poached a loose ball on the home line to tap down.

Crusaders coach Iestyn Harris:

"[On his suspended players] The chapter is closed on them now and you will expect them to come into training with a point to prove.

"I expect them to have some energy and enthusiasm plus a desire to get themselves back into the team."

"[On Gareth Thomas's injury] The physio has said it looks like a broken arm. If it is a clean break, you are looking at six to eight weeks but, if it has to be plated, it may be longer."

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan:
"We started the game sprightly but I have to give a huge amount of credit to the Crusaders who had a number of players who were suspended today for some off-field things.

"Half-time for us was about saying that was not our best performance in the first-half and I told them to go out and sort that out. We did and got enough points.

"Today, we had to show a bit of character and determination.

"We showed that and Michael Dobson did well in leading us around the park, and the player who stood out was Scott Taylor, who has strung three or four good games together back to back and I'm really excited about him."
