Sheffield Eagles coach Mark Aston takes on Ireland job

Aston has been associated with the Eagles since 1985

Sheffield Eagles head coach Mark Aston has agreed to take charge of Ireland Rugby League on part-time basis, BBC Radio Sheffield understands.

Aston's success in developing rugby league in Sheffield is believed to be the reason he was offered the role of head coach for the national side.

The contract will take in the 2013 World Cup in the United Kingdom.

Ireland have been drawn in Group A for the tournament and will face England, Australia and Fiji.
