York City Knights eager to keep trialist Adam Howard

York City Knights

York City Knights want to keep trialist Adam Howard at the club after his impressive form in pre-season matches.

Coach Dave Woods liked what he saw after watching the 23-year-old forward against Gateshead and Leeds Rhinos.

"He's still learning the game," Woods told BBC Radio York. "He's very raw but carrying the ball forward and his size and power, you can't coach that.

"I just need to do a bit of work with him where he needs to be and what he needs to do. He'll be all right."

Howard, who has played for amateurs Peterlee Pumas, has also played rugby union.

And he now looks ready to be offered his chance of Championship rugby league with newly-promoted York.

"He's keen and training well," said Woods. "We'll definitely look at keeping him.

"We'll be playing him in some reserve grade games and giving him a shot in the top grade every now and again, just to see how he comes up against some of these older more experienced forwards."
