England managed two tries in the 34-8 defeat by France
England Community Lions coach Kelvin Lockett believes his players emerged with credit from Wednesday's 34-8 defeat by France under-18s in Bordeaux.
Lockett's side notched tries from Thatto Heath's Corey Lee and Nathan Skupski, although the sin-binning of West Cumbria's Blake Mahovic was key.
Lockett said: "I thought the boys dug in, especially after we lost Blake Mahovic, who was probably our best player to the sin-bin.
"I'm very proud of the boys and we will now start again as we look ahead to facing Wales in a couple of weeks time."
One blow for the Lions was the loss of North Derbyshire prop Sam Hull who suffered a broken leg in the game.
"All the boys are really gutted with the injury to Sam," said Thatto Heath centre Dave Pike, who captained the side.
"He's now going to have to stay out here for another couple of days to recover but I'm sure he'll be fine and will be back on the field as soon as he can."
