Widnes Vikings release Smith, Doran, Yates and Strong

Widnes will release four players from their squad for the 2011 season, with former captain Mark Smith on the list to leave the Stobart Stadium.

Lee Doran, Scott Yates and Matt Strong are the other players who have not been offered new contracts.

The Vikings will also part company with former Warrington centre Toa Kohe-Love, who is retiring.

Stand-off Anthony Thackeray will also be leave the Championship side after he rejected a new deal.

Widnes sporting director Terry O'Connor said: "We're not alone in this predicament, as every single club up and down the country are in the same boat as us and will be making similar tough announcements in the coming weeks.

"On behalf of the club, I'd like to personally thank each of the players for their work whilst they were here at Widnes. Every one of them has been the consummate professional both on and off the pitch."

The Vikings now prepare themselves for the Championship play-offs after finishing fifth in the table following a season of injury problems.
